OLIVETTE, MO (KTVI) - For the second time in two weeks, a smoke shop in Olivette has been robbed in a smash and grab. The latest break in at Smoke Land Cigars, Liquor and Wine on Olive happened around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Olivette police say the suspect smashed a window with a brick then went inside, took an entire cash register and ran off. Police say the entire crime took only 13 seconds.
The Olivette Police Department is right next door.
Officers were at the store within a couple of minutes but by that time the suspect was gone. Investigators tell us the register only had some change in it.
Police say the suspect had a hoodie on that covered his face along with dark pants.
We`re told the suspect description and the ‘MO’ of the crime are basically the same as the first smash and grab at the business two weeks ago.
That one happened around 12:45 a.m. back on January 15th. In that case, the suspect smashed a window then got away with a cash register. That crime took 27 seconds.
Olivette police have surveillance video of both break ins but still no arrests. Police now trying to figure out if the same person could be behind both crimes. Meanwhile, two big pieces of plywood now cover two broken windows at the store.
