We went to Island Dyes for my son's 20th birthday. The shirt on the right is one of the ones the four of us made that day, and we were very happy with our experience. We made 3 shirts and two towels. My daughter, a college student, wanted to make a shirt for her boyfriend, so we went to the Island Dyes shop in Rodanthe. Our experience was VERY different. The shirt on the left is the one she got. It didn't have her name, had multiple water marks and was quite faded. I complained to the young man there, and he blamed her. She made the shirt on the right. He didn't know how to fold it or anything as we had experienced in Kill Devil Hills. I felt really bad for my daughter, because she is a student and every penny counts, she wanted to bring something nice home for her boyfriend, and the way we were both treated in Rodanthe when we questioned the quality. The water streaks throughout, to us, had to do more with handling than the tie-dyer. Insult to injury for her is that her technique was blamed, and she spent a lot of her own money to experience it.....she's still not sure it was even the shirt she made.
